GATE - Graduate Aptitude Test In Engineering

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all-India examination that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in engineering and science. GATE is conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) on behalf of the National Coordination Board – GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Government of India.

What is gate & why it is important

Student can write GATE in final year (February online). It has 70% technical and 30% non technical (Maths, Quantitative Aptitude and English). Once GATE is qualified, Students are eligible for interviews in various PSUs and Govt. jobs (s.a. NTPC, BHEL, BEL, IOCL, ONGC, BARC, BPCL etc.) or for scholarship in M.Tech, MS & Direct PhD in various universities (IITs, NITs, IISc). Some private companies have also started to recruit students on the basis of GATE score. Recently Punjab, Haryana, West Bengal, UP & many other states Govt. has declared that selection of SDO (such as Electricity board) will be through GATE. No calculator is allowed & GATE score is valid for 3 years.

Strategy To Crack Gate Exam

The best strategy to prepare for the gate exam is to start preparing in the third year of B-Tech so that the preparation for the exam goes hand in hand with the college schedule.
